Department of Labor Studies & Employment Relations, The Pennsylvania State University, University Park, PA

The Department of Labor Studies and Employment Relations at The Pennsylvania State University invites applications for the position of Post-Doctoral Scholar with the Center for Global Workers’ Rights. This is a ten month position which begins on August 16, 2013.

The Center for Global Workers’ Rights comes out of an initiative that began in the fall of 2011 with the goal of promoting scholarly research and scholarly practitioner exchanges on issues related to workers’ rights. It has a broad focus that includes, but is not limited to, sweatshops, precarious work, labor standards, international labor and employment law, and the role of organized labor, government, and non-governmental organizations in addressing these problems. The Post-Doctoral Scholarship Program is designed to provide opportunities for a new generation of scholars engaged in research related to labor rights in a global economy.

Candidates should possess a Ph.D. in a relevant discipline, or a J.D., earned in the last three years, as well as evidence of an emerging research program relevant to the Center’s interests. Scholars will receive a salary, benefits, and a research/travel fund to support their work. They will be expected to teach one course each semester in the Department’s residential and/or online program and to actively participate in Department activities.

The Department of Labor Studies and Employment Relations is a multidisciplinary department with a large undergraduate program, a strong residential Masters of Science in Human Resources and Employment Relations (HRER), and a fully-online Masters of Professional Studies in HRER. The Department has existing strengths in labor relations, human resources, and international and comparative employment relations.
